Mario Lorenzo is a composer of electroacoustic and instrumental music. He was born in Buenos Aires in 1968. He studied musical composition at the Faculty of Artes y Ciencias Musicales of UCA. In parallel, he studied jazz and followed the courses of composition of Franco Donatoni. In Buenos Aires he has been active as a musician, teacher and organizer. He co-founded Séptima Práctica, a group for the diffusion and the creation of contemporary music. In Europe, he masters the electroacoustic music at the CDMC in Spain, then in Paris, at the CCMIX (Center of Musical Creation Iannis Xenakis) and at the CICM (Centre de recherche Informatique et Cration Musicale) where he wrote a doctoral thesis under the direction of Horacio Vaggione.
His work is based on a multi-scale approach, that is to say a large number of figures of different sizes (from micro to macro-time) independent and interdependent. Among his creations, we can quote: the opera Richter; La obra tiene al sembrador for instrumental ensemble; the electroacoustic piece Erre; the sound installation Compost; the Cycle Figures sur la corde for guitar and electronics, commissioned by the Ministre de la Culture de France. Awards include Omega Fondation Prize (1996); Antorchas Fondation Award, (1998, 1999); Fondo Nacional de las Artes Award, Luigi Russolo Prize (1999); Juan Carlos Paz Prize (2000); SACEM (2002, 2003); International Prize Noroit/Petitot, France (2002).
Currently, he lives in Paris. He works as a composer and sound artist. He is an associated researcher at the CICM at La Maison des Sciences de l’Homme, Paris-Nord
